In 2001 the AJC was founded and stated as the only major daily newspaper in the metropolitan area of Atlanta, GA. The Atlanta Journal Constitution was formed from two prior Companies being brought together by Cox enterprises. The previous names of the two companies were; The Atlanta Journal and The Atlanta Constitution. In the beginning the news sources would compete fiercely. The two teams were first merged in 1982 with one taking the morning to mid-day while the other took night. The head quarters for our company is in Dunwoody, Georgia. Below shows a image of the founder of Cox enterprises.
We were not always a big news company. Before the merge of the two companies we each were already planning to start separate TV stations; WSB-TV and WCON-TV. The only station to actually make it on the air was WSB making it the 1st TV station in the south. Having that station being broadcasted got us started on our track to fame Later many of the reporters today gained attraction for reporting on hard hitting stories in Atlanta. Bill Dedman (1989), Mike Toner (1993), and Mike Luckovich (2006) all won the Pulitzer Prize. This is an award for achievements in newspaper, magazine, and online journalism.
